General"I've heard about a McSpotlight web page that has enourmous info on the McDonalds libel case in the UK. How do I get to see it?" "I want to make contact with other activists around the country." "I want to setup a mailing to help distribute anarchist propaganda." "I want to make a web page about transexuality, and maybe start some online discussion?" "I want to have internet access at my activist event." Cat@lyst CharterSubmitted by tongmaster on Thu, 2006-03-16 04:31. GeneralCat@lyst is a non-hierarchical non-profit venture aimed at delivering net access to anarchists, greens, gays, feminists, activists and other interested persons or groups. Established with visions of freedom and independence in mind, Cat@lyst acknowledges that issues of access and equity to technology are crucial for those who feel they need and want to connect with the world. A strong individual or group presence on the net can be used as an effective means of communication, debate and solidarity. Cat@lyst aims to encourage all who wish to learn and develop skills in information technology and new media and to understand their processes. what does the cat do, and why?Submitted by tongmaster on Thu, 2006-03-16 04:23. GeneralC@T is a Temporary Autonomous Zone created for the free exchange of information. Low tech grass roots net access for real people. Pedestrians, public transport and pushbikes on the information super hypeway. Information is power. We need better communication tools to help get powerful information to activists and potential activists who need it. The internet is a cheap global communication network, using computers. It reverses the trend from top down broadcasting of TV and radio, and lets information flow across and under. With good ideas, a little training and a little technology, most anyone can reach a global audience. Cat is here to help with the training and technology. Just bring your ideas. What is CAT, and getting involvedSubmitted by stacy on Wed, 2005-09-21 21:29. GeneralPraccus wrote up this imaginary interview, March 2002: Q - What is the Background to Catalyst, how long have you been around and what were you original intentions? A - We started up sometime in 1994, came out of people at Jellyheads Warehouse wanting to start some multimedia activity; hooked into the Newtown anarchist/activist underground. Some critical Community Access TV energy fused up into an internet trajectory. There was also a push to have anarchist media rooms in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane -- inspired by Melbourne's Xchange Anarchist BBS, which had been bubbling along for a while. It's hooked into the oldest form of mass media, with nurturing and location from Black Rose Anarchist Bookstore, Newtown. We have a Community Dossier online at http://www.cat.org.au/cat/dossier/cmd.html. |
