I have occasion to ride past the old, abandoned White Bay Power Station on my bike recently. I was admiring the colours of the rust on the tin roofs and the different bricks and concrete used in different phases of building. It is enormous and dominates the skyline along much of that side of Victoria Rd. I didn't know it was the White Bay Power Station at first, just a ridiculously big old complex that was a bit of an enigma, and the nearby White Bay Hotel, equally abandonded due to a major highway that now passes nearby before joining the Anzac (Glebe Island) Bridge.
Then one day, I craned my neck wilst passing a fenced-off footbridge entrance to the mammoth complex, and noticed the words "Power Station" in bas relief in the concrete.
I had one of those moments where you can almost hear the penny drop. Joss had told me about a story pred had written about a liaison they had there. She had suggested it for the book of his writings. I hadn't read the story at the time because the book was full up already, so it was out of the question. I found the story in pred's home directory and settled in for the night.
Having been watching artists create, I found myself truly longing to paint. So last week I packed up my watercolours and headed out to find a good vantage point on the Power Station. I found a lovely little park called "Hannan's Reserve", at the end of which, there was a clear view, shaded by trees.
I don't really know why I did this, it just seemed like all these forces were converging around this idea. So here it is, the posthumous, illustrated version of powerstation.txt by <predator> At the very least it is nice to think that when people are researching the WB Power Station on the internet, the mighty giant's history will be stained with the illegal lube, massage oil, and bodily juices of the late, great Mr. Predator.
