After Years of very little change, it looks like the squid proxy server development project is gaining momentum again.
Lookin at the squid-dev mailing list just now, it looks like there's both a new Squid 3 PRE release and a Squid 2.6 release planned for the near future. See the following threads:
Squid-3 release cycle (Fri May 05 2006 - 09:18:49 MDT)
2.6 beginning to take shape (Mon May 15 2006 - 21:17:35 MDT)
I'm interested in this because I want to be able to use something like the Edge Side Includes(ESI) which is being introduced in squid 3, and if that's not ready, I might consider implementing a cut down version using the ICAP protocol, some support for which is already in Squid 2.5.
ESI support is in Squid 3, but having been so long (3 years? since Squid 3.0 PRE3), I'd just about given up on seeing this come to fruition. Nice to see some movement again.
