The Life Skills Camp
A residential facility that supports the delivery of intensive training blocks delivered by CAT and/or Batchelor Institute, at the Desert Peoples Centre in Alice Springs. Living on site for periods of training enables Aboriginal people from remote communities to access state of the art training facilities and equipment as well as a range of support services to help address personal issues, learning needs and maximise success.
The Life Skills Camp can also be booked for a range of live-in events and workshops.
Located ten minutes from the Alice Springs CBD and situated near the Desert Knowledge Precinct, the Life Skills Camp is set in a quiet area of natural beauty surrounded by corkwood trees and many different native birds and animals.
Where we are
The Desert Knowledge Precinct is situated on the South Stuart Highway, 8kms south of Alice Springs CBD.
The Life Skills Camp has a total of 12 single rooms, modern communal living areas and ample parking.
There are two rooms that are equipped for use by people with disabilities, these are rooms 2 & 11. If you need one of these rooms, please let us know when you arrive.
Each room is furnished with a single bed, a locker for clothes, a bedside table and a table & chair. There is an en suite shower room in each room with a shower, wash basin and toilet. Bedding and a towel is supplied in each room.
The rooms are set around 2 courtyards, each has a drinking water fountain and outdoor seating for 6 people to sit down, relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The kitchen and communal living areas
The kitchen and dining area is separate from the rooms and is set up for self-catering during your visit.
The kitchen has a gas cooker, fridges, freezer, dishwasher and microwave as well as smaller kitchen equipment to make your stay comfortable. There will be teabags, coffee, sugar and milk provided upon entry, more can be provided upon request.
There is dining space for 12 people and the dining area can also be used to relax and watch TV. There is additional seating for 12 people under a covered outdoor area with a barbeque.
There is a separate laundry room equipped with 2 washing machines and a laundry bench for our guests to use. The laundry room has an exit to an outdoor drying area which has clothes lines available to dry your laundry. There is also an iron and ironing board available for use. Laundry detergent is kept in the laundry room.
A Security Service undertake patrols of the CAT site twice a night for your security.
Irrarnte (Black Cockatoo) cafe
The Irrarnte café is a five minute walk away at the Desert Knowledge Precinct and is open from 8am to 3pm on weekdays. You can buy a range of drinks and snacks and meals.
