The Certificate I in Automotive Vocational Preparation offers entry-level training for students employed or seeking employment in the automotive sectors, such as:
- Automotive Electrical
- Outdoor Power Equipment
- Light vehicle
- Vehicle Body and Paint – Detailing
- Heavy Vehicle
Students may undertake a range of simple tasks under the close supervision of an experienced trainer. The qualification targets introductory employment, such as induction or probationary periods for automotive retail, service and repair employment. It may also be suitable for a cadetship, or part time and casual employment positions where a full range of skills are not required.
Further training pathways from this qualification include any Certificate II qualification within the AUR12 Automotive Industry Retail, Service and Repair Training Package or other relevant qualifications.
Government subsidies for training programs vary by State and Territory jurisdictions. Government subsidised training places are generally available to those without a qualification up to a Certificate III level especially for those referred through an employment service provider.
There may be subsidies available to employers to support the cost of training their employees. Employers are usually expected to contribute to the cost of training.
To be awarded this qualification, competency must be demonstrated through completion of eight (8) units made up of:
Five (5) core units
AURAEA1001, Identify environmental requirement in an automotive workplace
AURASA1001, Apply automotive workplace safety fundamentals
AURETR1003, Apply automotive electrical system fundamentals
AURLTA1001, Apply automotive mechanical system fundamentals
AURTTK2002, Use and maintain workplace tools and equipment
Three (3) elective units
(which could include, but not limited to the following units)
AURLTJ2003, Remove, inspect and refit light vehicle wheel assemblies
AURPTA1001, Carry out pre-repair operations to outdoor power equipment
AURPTA1002, Perform minor adjustments to outdoor power equipment
